In the 18th century the Grand Tour - a journey across Europe to Italy and its classical past - provided young aristocratic British travelers with a way to acquire a canon of taste, noble ideas and moral virtue. The souvenirs of the Grand Tour often included 'intaglios' as they are called in Italy. This Intaglio is a hand-made plaster of paris reproduction from an 18th century original and hand framed in hard wood.
