Vaugondy Globe In A Box by Authentic Models GL038
View the earth as it was mapped in 1745 with this Ivory Vaugondy Globe.
Father, Gilles Robert de Vaugondy, and son, Didier Robert de Vaugondy, were the leading map makers in France during the 1700s.
De Vaugondy presented this globe of exploration, marking the routes of contemporary explorers, to the French King Louis XV. He was appointed geographer to the court and he published many more globes of various sizes, the biggest with a diameter of 8.5 ft. (2.6 meters).
The fact that relatively accurate globes were made centuries ago speaks for the sophistication of early science and cartography. This globe is truly an early document of history. Giving an accurate picture of the world as it was known in 1745, it is not only interesting decor, but also a back-in-time experience, a guide tointerpreting and appreciating history.
This unique piece is made of ivory-colored papier mbchi and comes handsomely packaged in a matching gift box. A stand is also included, allowing you to display your globe on a desk or bookshelf.
